Full Text

It is stated—we know not on what authority—that James C. Pickett, Esq has been appointed Secretary of Legation to Colombia. If this appointment has really been made, it is a good one—the best, we imagine, of the present administration. Mr. Pickett, it is true, has always belonged to a party which we have considered essentially wrong in politics—a circumstance which we have felt incline to attribute to his associations: he is the son in law of the ex-governor Desha, and was Secretary of the Commonwealth, for three or four years, under his administration. But he is a gentleman of highly respectable talents, possessing a mind naturally strong, and well improved by study and reading; of courteous manners and good taste.
