April 7.

Letters in this city, received on Saturday last, relate the following circumstance: That Capt. Barney, in a vessel from Baltimore, having met with a British privateer, was ordered to come to, and submit to an examination. Capt. Barney not choosing to comply with their requisitions, had recourse to his musket. by which means he killed an officer of the privateer. It is said that the Captain was immediately taken and carried into Jamaica, and confined for a Pirate. It is also reported, that a remonstrance from the inhabitants of Baltimore has procured dispatches from the President of the United States to that Island, to demand Capt. Barney; and that serious apprehensions are entertained in consequence of this affair.
