OUR LOSS. THEIR GAIN.
A MUSICIAN OF NOTE LEAVES US FOR AN-
OTHER FIELD OF USEFULNESS.

Professor J. A. Sibbetts left on the
Overland Saturday morning for New
Westminster, British Columbia, to ac-
cept the position of leader of the City
band of that place, which has a popula-
tion of 25,000 people. As a musician,
the professor bears an enviable reputa-
tion both at home and abroad. He is a
gentleman of wide experience, in his
line of artistic ability, having served
five years with different army bands of
the regular service and also two years in
United States naval service bands. His
remarkable record is shown in the fact
that he has been the organizer and
leader of 21 bands respectively in the
Willamette valley. While in the Phil-
ippines he was leader of the Thirteenth
Minnesota Volunteer Infantry band.

In congratulating the people of New
Westminster on having secured the ser-
vices of so able a musician as Professor
Sibbetts, it is imperative to add there
is regret at his departure from this place
where his skill as a musician and his
urbanity as a genial citizen will be
greatly missed. But such is the penalty
of fame, that when one achieves it he is
called away to wider fields of usefulness
and has to give the good-by shake to
those who have become endeared to him
by pleasant association. He now be-
comes the leader of one of the crack
musical organizations of British North-
west Territory and will without doubt
fill the bill with eclat.
