Full Text

Louisiana Election.—The result of this election is in the highest degree encouraging to the Whigs, and will, we hope, be followed by equally decisive victories in other States. The majority for Mr. White, as Governor, in all the parishes but one, is 1648, the whole number of votes being about 10,400.—In the first Congressional district, Mr. Johnson, and in the third Mr. Gailard, both Whigs, are elected; the former by a majority of 516, and the latter of 591. Gen. Ripley is elected in the second by a majority of about 250: but it is said that he owes his election partly to the fact that there were two Whig candidates, and partly to his avowal of his opposition to some prominent measures of the administration. There is a decided Whig majority in the Legislature, and the election of a Whig U. S. Senator is rendered secure.—[Boston Patriot.
