Event Details
In 1719, Col. Shute informed the Board of Trade that inhabitants worked up Wool and Flax into coarse cloth, had Hatters in maritime Towns, manufactured Leather, and operated six Iron Furnaces and 19 Forges. Governor Belcher confirmed this in 1730. Col. Dunbar reported exporting Hats to Spain, Portugal, and the West-Indies, and noted difficulty in procuring information due to the Assembly's actions against his deputy.
