Cincinnati, October 27—A special dispatch to the Gazette dated Knoxville, October 25th, contains the following information:
"The engagement of to-day was a gallant and hotly contested hand-to-hand affair of over four hours. The rebel force was estimated at 5,000. They lost, in killed, wounded and prisoners, over 300. Wolford recaptured his wagon train and some of his men, but lost his grasshopper battery.
"Our losses in killed, wounded and missing were near 300.
"General Sanders advanced yesterday. The rebels made a stand below Philadelphia, but fell back upon our approach. A running fight was kept up until dark. There are no rebels east of Sweetwater. Sanders' loss was but two killed.
"The road above is all cleared. Colonel Crawford of the 1st Tennessee Artillery, has just returned from an expedition to distribute arms through Virginia and North Carolina, and receive recruits. He was successful in both. The people are rising everywhere."
