The Alger Party Talks to 10,000 People in Allison's Town.
Dubuque, Iowa, Sept. 30.—Generals Alger, Howard, Stewart and Sickles and Corporal Tanner arrived from the West before daylight, and even at that early hour were welcomed by a large number of citizens. They remained in their car until 9 o'clock, when they were escorted to Washington Park, where they spoke for two hours in behalf of McKinley. During the early morning special trains brought in hundreds of excursionists, and it is estimated that not less than 10,000 people were in line. Several hundred local and visiting G. A. R. men formed the escort and these were accompanied by a detachment of cavalry, a long line of marching clubs and several bands. On the platform at the park, besides the generals and other distinguished visitors, was Senator Allison, Congressman D. B. Henderson and Gov. Drake. Col. Henderson presided and presented the speakers, each being received with enthusiastic cheers of the assembled thousands.
Senator Allison delivered an address of welcome on the part of the city and Gov. Drake for the State of Iowa.
