THE LITTLE WAR STEAMER.

A gentleman in New York having every opportunity to know the fact he states, thus writes concerning one of the steamers lately purchased by the government:

"Tell your readers that the steam schooner Vixen is a failure. Her machinery will not work. She has been tried twice and will not do. The officers are mad, dissatisfied and disgusted, for they were anxious to get into the gulf to do something. The contractors are to be blamed much. These schooners might have served Mexican sailors, but they won't do for Uncle Sam's boys."—Phila. American.
