CHICAGO, Jan. 4. -- Ogallala Fire,
90-year-old Indian, lies in a hospital
here in a serious condition as the result
of a self-inflicted wound made
with a razor.
Ogallala Fire was a survivor
of Custer's last fight. He had five wives
at the time. He was a companion of
Rain in the Face, Spotted Tail, Red
Cloud and other chiefs who gave the
government much trouble, but he had
no children. Two stepsons by one of
his wives are living, one employed
in the governor's office in South Da-
kota and the other a circus performer.
The wife of Little Bear, known as
Henry Reako, in whose house Chief
Ogallala lived, said he had been de-
pondent for some time through falling
health.
At the hospital it was said the
chief's chances for recovery
were slight.
