On Sunday, March 23d. at 7:30 P. M. the ladies of the Presbyterian Missionary Aid Society gave a splendid Home Missionary program, taking the place of the preaching service.
Through the kind invitation of the pastor of the Southern Methodist Church, Rev. Paul M. Brown, and his good people, this program was given in the Methodist church, as the little Episcopal church where our services are held regularly was thought to be rather small for the congregation, the Methodist congregation wishing to unite with ours for the occasion.
A splendid congregation greeted the ladies in their first public effort.
A very instructive and helpful program was given. There were four papers read bearing upon Home Missions.
The first paper was read by Mrs. Bartlett, and covered the Scope of Home Missions in the Assembly.
Mrs. R. A. Williams read a paper on the Two-fold Nature of Home Missions in the Assembly, in which she discussed the foreign problem.
Mrs. D. D. Blue read a paper on the Problems and Difficulties of Home Mission Work in Louisiana Presbytery.
Mrs. W. R. Nichols discussed in her paper the Financial Status of Home Mission Work in Louisiana Presbytery, the Relation of the Local or Presbyterial Home Mission Work to the Assembly's Work, and the Method of the Home Mission Committee of Louisiana Presbytery in employing Home Missionaries, and guaranteeing their support, and the relation of the Home Mission churches to this mutual agreement.
All of these papers were clear and concise and well prepared.
Congregational singing and special music added to the spirit of the service. Professor Stanley's splendid orchestra of young people rendered valuable assistance in the music, rendering as a special the song entitled "Crown Him."
The program was under the direction of Mrs. D. D. Blue, Secretary of Home Missions in the Society.
A free-will offering was taken amounting to $29.46, which was divided between Presbyterial and Assembly's Home Missions.
E. M. Stewart, Pastor.
