Extract of a letter from New-York, Dec. 31.
The weather is extremely mild, for this season, the cold has not been sufficiently severe to congeal cold water only once, which lasted but a few hours, since the commencement of this winter month.
So moderate a winter as the present, has not been known in this city since it was first founded, this, added to the new commercial regulations which have been instituted by the federal government, has rendered the state of commerce uncommonly flourishing.
Our wharves along their whole extent are crowded with fire-wood, which now sells, oak at 15s. and hickory at 25s. a cord.
