The Latest Case of Lynching.—A slip from the St. Louis New Era, dated August 23d, states that the whole number of counterfeiters, gamblers, &c., put to death by the Arkansas and Mississippi lynchers, was 23: of whom 22 were drowned, and one, attempted to escape by mingling with the assailants, was, upon detection shot. Five or six houses on one of the islands were burnt. This information was obtained at a wood yard about four miles below the scene of outrage, and was furnished by the owner of the yard. All the implements of rascality were found about the premises of the murdered men. A large amount of counterfeit bank notes were discovered, consisting of $50 and $100 notes on the Commercial Bank of New-Orleans, not signed; and 1, 2, and $3 notes of the Third Municipality, New-Orleans. The principal resorts of the counterfeiters, &c., were islands Nos. 67, 68, and 69, in the Mississippi, near the mouth of White River, Arkansas.
