Nineteenth Annual Camp Meeting at Clinton in August.
Special to Times-Republican.
Clinton, May 7.--From advance sheets of the Mississippi Valley Spiritualist Association announcement, the nineteenth annual camp meeting of the association to be held here this summer, July 25 to Aug. 28, will be one of the most important in the history of the association, which is today the most important Spiritualist organization in the United States. Nineteen years ago the association was organized here as the Iowa conference of Spiritualists, but so rapidly did it grow that in 1885 the name of the society was changed to the Mississippi Valley Spiritualist Association, and it was duly incorporated under the laws of Iowa. The association includes in its territory the entire Mississippi valley, and every year hundreds of Spiritualists from the states in this section visit the grounds, which are beautifully situated on the bluffs overlooking the city from the west. The park contains twenty acres and is an ideal outing place. It is the property of the association and within its limits are many handsome houses and two large pavilions, capable of accommodating 3,000 people.
The program this year contains the names of some of the best known mediums and platform lecturers in the United States, and special music has been engaged for the entire session.
The officers of the association are: President, W. F. Peck, St. Louis; vice president, Mrs. Emma Knowles, Clinton; secretary, Stella Fisk, Keokuk, Iowa; treasurer, Isaac Millsack, Ottumwa.
The association owns a ten-acre tract adjoining the present site and it is the intention of the association to erect here in a few years a large institution of learning.
