We have an account of M. Bompart's sailing from Cape Francois the 17th of September last, with his whole squadron, consisting of 7 ships of the line from 74 to 64 guns, and a small frigate of 22, all deeply laden with indigo and fine sugars, insomuch that all the large ships' lower tiers of ports were caulked in: they had 11 top-sail vessels and 2 sloops under their convoy, all which were French except a ship of about 600 tons, that came from Bordeaux under Spanish colours, and was returning in the same manner. The pilots that carried M. Bompart's squadron clear of the keys, left them the 24th off the Caicos's, in a privateer schooner of 6 swivel guns, that had been impressed to carry them back to the cape: the schooner on her return cruized off Turk's Island, in order to pick up something by the way, having with the pilots 16 hands; but a Bermuda letter of marque sloop, of 4 carriage guns, and 10 men, commanded by Capt. John Pearman, on the 29th, seeing her at anchor, fired a shot at her, and she struck directly, Capt. Harvey of this Port, being at Turk's-Island at the same time bro't two of the schooner's people with him, and from them we have this information.
