Full Text

Another Indian outrage upon our Santa Fe Traders.—It is but a few weeks since the disagreeable task devolved on us of announcing the death of two of our most respectable citizens, killed by the Indians, on their way from New Mexico, with the fruits of their enterprise.—Several, belonging to a company of about twenty five, which started some months since from Santa Fe for Missouri, have just arrived, and state that on their way they were met by a party of Indians, who drove off all their mules and horses not leaving them any with which to travel. That Capt. John Means, an old well known and respectable resident of Franklin. being at a distance from the main body of the company, had his gun taken from him by the Indians, and with it shot dead, they having themselves nothing but bows and arrows. The party then pursued their journey on foot, leaving behind several waggons, in some of which were large sums of money. Having considerable specie, they were obliged, we understand, to bury it until they could reach the settlements, (a distance of several hundred miles) and procure horses on which to bring it. Such are particulars which we have gathered relating to this unfortunate affair.— Missouri Int.
