CITY COLLEGE BOY'S TRIAL.
Tutors Testify That Stabile, Who Shot McGrath, Was of Good Repute.

Dr. John H. Finley, president of the College of the City of New York, is expected as a witness to-day in Judge Crain's part of General Sessions to supplement the testimony of several instructors yesterday in behalf of Vincent J. Stabile, a student on trial for murder.

It has been the purpose of the defence to show that the young Italian, who attended the college for three years, had a good reputation as a quiet, industrious man.

Some of the tutors who gave this evidence yesterday were Charles J. Mendellohn, who teaches Greek; John R. Todd of the history department, John R. Kelly, drawing; Bird W. Stair, English literature; George V. Edwards, Latin; Maxine Bergeron, French; Louis C. Sceva, who described himself as a lawyer and literary man; Louis Sceva, his son, who was a friend of Stabile in college; James Donohue, another student, and Anthony J. Griffin, a lawyer.

Stabile paid his college expenses by leasing a number of houses in West Fifty-third street and subletting them. In a statement of his case written by himself Stabile says that he was bothered by the Irish boys of the neighborhood from the time he went there to live. He complained to Policeman Michael O'Connor, who testified yesterday that he had advised the Italian to get a permit to carry a gun.

On September 25 John McGrath, one of the boys of the neighborhood, was shot by Stabile, who, according to his plea, did it in self-defence. There has been testimony that the boy was shot in the back of the head.
