Full Text

Lectures. The Rev. Starr King delivered lectures at the Theater last Thursday and Friday evenings, for the benefit of the Nevada Library Association. The subject of the first lecture, "Substance and Show," was treated in a manner quite original, and altogether different from what was generally expected. His idea was, that the substances or things which exert the most powerful and enduring influences upon humanity are altogether intangible, and not perceptible to the senses. The second lecture, on the "Laws of Disorder," was a commentary, or reflections, upon well known facts, and was, perhaps, less interesting to the most of his hearers than the first. Mr. King is not a sensation orator, but his language is eloquent, and his sentences are so beautifully constructed that one could listen to his lectures for hours without weariness. Both lectures were listened to by appreciative but not large audiences, and the attendance at the second was somewhat larger than at the first.
