Full Text
The legislature of the state of Connecticut has made some arrangement of their great national property, the school fund; and the management of it has been committed to the care of the honorable James Hillhouse, one of the senators from that state in the congress of the United States. On accepting the office of commissioner of the School Fund, Mr. Hillhouse resigned his seat in the senate. Mr. Hillhouse has been a member of the national legislature nineteen years, and at the time of his resignation was probably one of the oldest members in either house. That he was one of the ablest will not be disputed, by those who are capable of forming a just estimate of talents and services. The honorable Samuel W. Dana is chosen to succeed Mr. Hillhouse in the senate. -N. Y. Eve. Post.
