A Republican Beef Roast took place on
Wednesday the 27th November, at Miller's
Tavern, where a number of respectable in-
habitants of the counties of Essex, and King
& Queen assembled, for the purpose of ce-
lebrating the probable preponderance of de-
mocratic principles in the United States, and
in particular for the election of a republican
governor in the state of Pennsylvania.

The following patriotic Toasts were drank
and applauded by repeated huzzas on the
part of the company.

1. The sovereignty of the people—may
they never be deprived of their rights by the
constituted, or any other authority what-
ever.

2. Thomas Jefferson—may his eminent
talents, his well tried integrity, and his re-
publican virtues, secure to him the next pre-
sidential appointment.

3. The fundamental principles of the con-
stitution—may it be pruned of its exuber-
ances that lead to monarchy, or aristocracy.

4. Moderation with temper, but firmness
in support of genuine republicanism.

5. The people of Pennsylvania—may
their zeal in favor of democratic principles
be rewarded with every blessing that free
men can ask for.

6. The prominent republican characters
of Virginia, Madison, Taylor, Giles, Mon-
roe, J. and W. Nicholas, &c. &c.

7. Success to our mission to France—
may the union be cemented by ties, terrible
to despots as well domestic as foreign.

8. A repeal of the unconstitutional and
corrupt Alien and Sedition Laws.

9. May the spirit of the naval, and regu-
lar land armaments diminish in proportion
to the principles of oppression they contain.

10. The militia of the United States—
may it be considered as the bulwark of the
nation, and the safety of the people.

11. Peace with all the world; but if we
are forced into a war, let it be with a mo-
narchy, not a republic.

12. Success to the French arms against
the combination of despots, and may the
blood-thirsty Suwarrow meet with the fate
that his savage inhumanity justly merits.

13. The spirit of seventy-six—may we
frequently resort to first principles.

14. Virginia—May she profit by the vir-
tuous example of her Sister state, Pennsyl-
vania.

15. To the memory of the first of patri-
ots, George Nicholas, of Kentucky.

16. May union of interests produce union
of sentiments in the people of America; and
may that accordance be founded in princi-
ples of genuine liberty.
