IN SENATE:—Dec. 20.
Mr. Roberts presented the petition of Thomas Murray, late head cooper of the Navy-Yard, at Washington praying compensation to which he conceives himself entitled for services rendered in that capacity. The petition was referred to Messrs. Roberts, Tait & Macon.
Mr. Taylor presented the petition of Walter Sims, praying to be allowed further time to file a release to the United States of his title to land in the Mississippi territory, (under the act for extinguishment of the Yazoo claims)—which was referred to Messrs. Taylor, Hunter and Morrow.
Mr. Rogers presented the Memorial of the President and Directors of the Merchants Bank of Alexandria, praying for an act of incorporation; which was read.
Mr. Ruggles presented the petition of Wm. Farris, sen. praying for the renewal of his patent right for propelling vessels and land carriages; which was referred to Messrs. Ruggles, Brown & Dana.
Mr. Roberts presented the petition of sundry tallow chandlers of the city of Philadelphia, praying a repeal of duty on the manufacture of Candles; which was referred to the committee appointed on that part of the Message of the President of the United States which relates to the subject of manufactures.
On motion of Mr. Tait, the report of the Secretary of the Navy, was referred to the naval committee.
