Caneel Bay Plantations, incidentally many areas of St. John, will be furnished with ample electric power by June this year.
As a result of a ten year $250,000 contract entered into between Caneel Bay and the Virgin Islands Corporation, an underwater cable is being run from St. Thomas to St. John. The resort has guaranteed to consume no less than $25,000 worth of power a year for ten years.
Caneel Bay officials say that although many appliances will be electrically operated, it will be impossible for them to use anywhere near the $25,000 minimum agreed to, thus an abundance of power will be available for use by other St. John residents.
Electricity is now furnished in St. John by a government plant, but it is operated only on a part-time basis, and is very unreliable.
