Extract of a Letter from a Gentleman of eminent Figure, Judgment and Intelligence at London, dated May 12, to a Gentleman in Boston.

"I am very sorry you seem to have such an ill Opinion of our Publick Management under what we call the old Ministry. As to a General Alliance, it were a great Thing if it could be obtained: But upon a Reconsideration, I dare say your good Sense will see, it was not at this Time in our Power to obtain. And you know we have a large Party that will not allow us to have any Thing to do on the Continent. I wish it were possible for me to have 2 or 3 Hours Conversation with you. But the Acquaintance I have providentially been led into with some of the First Rank, has brought so much Business upon me, as leaves me but little Time for Writing. However it has furnished me with so much Knowledge of our Political Affairs, that I can venture to Say, never was a Ministry more wickedly abused: Their Integrity, and indeed Judgment and Skill have been so fully cleared up in the most solemn Manner, by such unquestionable Vouchers as the State Papers, as you will see by the Votes of the House of Commons, that I think must conquer every Prejudice. And no doubt they will be replaced, to the Joy of the Friends of Liberty and Religion: two wiser and better Men never sat at the Helm. I firmly believe than the D of N--and the late C--r, And you would say, I had Foundation to say so, if you knew the Opportunities I have had of informing myself; but all will be soon right again: And if it please God to give some remarkable Success to our Friends abroad, I hope we shall have an honourable Peace. May the Spirit of Prayer increase and prevail, both with you and us. The scarcity of Bread is a bad Circumstance with us here."
