Full Text

Dare to be true; though falsely blamed,
Dare to be true; though falsely blamed,
Till you own a better;
Fashion's frown is but of short duration,
Debt's an iron fetter.
Dare to be an honest man,
Though you use a shovel;
E'en with sceptre in his hand
A knave must ever grovel.
Dare to be a gentleman,
In all ways truly gentle.
Though you own no acres broad,
Possess no kingly rental.
Dare to seem just what you are,
Dare to do your duty;
And you shall wear upon your brow
Men's noblest crown of beauty.
