By a late act of the parliament of Upper Canada, the following articles are admitted from the United States free of duty.
Manufactured tobacco, staves and heading, wheat, pot and pearl ashes, furs and skins not dressed, pork & live cattle, sheep, hogs and tallow,--also, flour, oak, pine and fir timber, for exportation only.
A duty of five pounds avvalorem, is imposed on all articles, to which no duty is particularly affixed.
On all vessels or boats, the property of the citizens of the United States, a tonnage duty of 3 per cent, if not above five, or less than fifty tons; and six per cent on all vessels above fifty tons. Such vessels are exempted as are exclusively employed in the transportation of passengers and their baggage, or laden with goods and merchandise in transitu for this province.
The act is to remain in force until the end of the next ensuing session.
