FAYETTEVILLE, ARK., July 5.—By the over-
land mail we learn that the official and re-
ported returns from Jackson, Josephine,
Douglas, Umpqua, Lane, Benton, Linn, Ma-
rion, Multnomah, Clackamas, Washington
and Yamhill Counties, in Oregon, gave the
Democratic candidate for Congress 1,032
votes, and the Republican candidate 1,033
votes. The counties yet to be heard from
are Wasco, Polk, Curry, Coos, Columbia,
Clatsop and Tillamook, which last year cast
752 Democratic and 600 Republican votes.
Material changes have taken place this year
in counties heard from, some showing Re-
publican gains on last year, and others ma-
terial Republican losses, consequently both
parties are hopeful of securing the member
of Congress.
Such a Legislature, Republican and Anti-
Lecompton Democratic, has been elected as
will insure the defeat of General Lane and
Delazon Smith for re-election to the United
States Senate.
Linn County, heretofore strongly Demo-
cratic, and the residence of Delazon Smith,
has elected four members to the Legislature
hostile to Lane and Smith.
Douglas County gave the Democratic Con-
gressional candidate 136 majority, but elected
two Republican representatives to the Legis-
lature.
