The Police Jury.

From the published proceedings of the Police Jury of our Parish, we glean an insight into the financial situation of the Parish. Since its last sitting, in October we believe, the Collector of Parish Taxes has paid over the sum of $12,825.36, and the Treasurer has handed over the sum of $11,215.82, in Parish Certificates to the Jury, which amount has been destroyed. The Jury passed favorably on claims to the amount of $4964.98, against the Parish, for which Certificates of indebtedness were issued. Claims to the amount of $846.87 were disallowed. We cannot from the proceedings ascertain the real indebtedness of the Parish, but we think the sum of twelve thousand dollars will cover it all. Financially speaking, therefore, we think our Parish is not in a very bad fix, and with the least good management and economy, the first of January 1875, will find her clear of debt. The Police Jury, who seem to take more interest in our affairs than usual, owe it to themselves and to the true interests of Rapides to keep on in the good work and keep the ball of reform in motion and in the right tack.
