INDIAN WAR.
We may expect soon to have important intelligence from our army at the westward. If this army should meet with a fate similar to St. Clair's, &c. it is hoped the eyes of "The People" will be so far opened as to call on Congress for an explicit declaration of the validity of our claim, together with the views and designs of those who are urging that hitherto disgraceful, expensive and destructive business. Millions of dollars expended and thousands of men slain, will call for a public investigation, as no freeman, who pays an "additional TAX" to support this war, will any longer be satisfied with a bare recital, on paper, of the "mismanagement and neglect" of any department whatever. A war for territory, at this period when millions of acres lay totally uncultivated within our own borders, though beneficial to individuals, must eventually prove ruinous to the United States, and absorb a revenue which ought to be appropriated to the useful purpose of discharging our foreign and domestic debt.
