State Legislature.

SENATE.

Tuesday, March 23.—The Senate assembled at 11 A. M.

The accounts of Dr. W. S. McFalls for post mortem examination, and J. W. Denny for stationery furnished the Senate, were referred.

The Committee on Engrossed Bills reported back as correctly engrossed a bill to provide for the appointment of a Land Commissioner, and to define his powers and duties. The bill received its third reading, was agreed to, and returned to the House.

A resolution was adopted, that the Clerk of the Senate be instructed to advertise for bids to furnish this body with stationery, &c., for use at the next regular session.

A message was received from the Governor, stating that he had approved the following Acts and joint resolution, viz: An Act to provide for the conversion of State securities; an Act to alter and amend the charter of the town of Greenville, and for other purposes; joint resolution to authorize and direct the Comptroller-General of the State to provide and furnish offices for officers of the Executive Department.

A bill to provide for the care of the poor was continued to the next regular session.

A resolution was adopted, that $500 be appropriated for the purchase of a new carpet for the Senate, and that the old one be turned over to the Sergeant-at-Arms.

A concurrent resolution by the General Assembly of South Carolina, requesting Congress to aid the construction of the Memphis El Paso and Southern Trans-Continental Railroad on the line of the 32d parallel of latitude to the Pacific Ocean, was concurred in, and ordered to be returned to the House.

Majority and minority reports of the Special Committee, on a bill to provide for a system of vaccination in this State, were continued to the next regular session of the General Assembly.

A joint resolution to authorize the Secretary of State to purchase thirty-eight copies of Richardson's State Reports, was ordered to be engrossed.

Bills to incorporate the Ashley Bridge Company; and to define contracts for laborers, were postponed to the next regular session.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

The House met at 11 A. M.

The account of F. R. Calhan, M. D., of Abbeville County, for post mortem examination, was referred.

Senate bills to regulate and define the law of divorce; to incorporate the South Carolina Plantation Company; to incorporate the Noiseless Traction Engine Company; and to determine and perpetuate the homestead, were postponed until the next regular session.

A bill to establish a company under the name of the Mount Pleasant and Sullivan's Island Ferry Company, and to extend the aid of the State to the same, was indefinitely postponed.

The enacting clause of a bill (House) to alter and amend an Act entitled "An Act to organize the Circuit Courts," was stricken out.

The accounts of the Columbia post office for box rent and postage, and J. W. Denny, for stationery furnished the House of Representatives, were referred.

The enacting clause of a bill to invest Clerks of Courts of Common Pleas with certain powers and duties heretofore exercised and performed by Commissioners and Masters in Equity, was stricken out.

A message was received from the Governor, stating that he had approved the following Acts, viz: To make appropriations and raise supplies for the year commencing in October, 1868; to provide for an election to fill certain vacancies in County offices; to repeal an Act entitled "An Act to prevent persons holding certain offices of emolument from leaving the State;" to amend an Act entitled "An Act to regulate the manner of drawing jurors;" to amend an Act entitled "An Act to define the jurisdiction and regulate the practice of Probate Courts;" to repeal Section 8 of an Act to alter the Act entitled "An Act to amend the criminal law;" to define the duties of State Reporter, and to provide for the publication of the Supreme Court reports.

A resolution to rescind the action of the House relative to removal of political disabilities, was indefinitely postponed.

Bills to regulate the manner of selling lands at public sale; to enforce the provisions of the fourteenth article of the Constitution of the United States; to prevent persons from holding office who are disqualified therefor by the fourteenth amendment to the Constitution of the United States; to authorize the employment of a reporter to take testimony in the Circuit Courts; to determine the rights of married women; in relation to rates of freight on railroads, were postponed until the next regular session.
