Full Text

On Wednesday Night a young Man, driven by Hunger, went into a Cook's Shop near St. Martin's Lane, and called for some Victuals; when he came to pay he was reduced to a very troublesome Dilemma, as he was without Money; his great Spirit would not permit him to own it, and to evade being put to the Blush he pick'd a Quarrel with the Landlady, which grew at last so violent, that she had him secured by the Watch, and carried to the Round-House.

In the Morning when he was to appear before the Justice, some of his Creditors, who had got Notice of it, sent a Bailiff, who arrested him, and carried him off: For this illegal Step the Bailiff is liable to a very great Fine, for no Man can be arrested for a Debt while he is a Prisoner for an Assault; 'til once he is cleared of the one he cannot be laid hold of for the other.
