Cowardly Flight of Foreigner From Moving Picture Show Causes Crush

Cannonsburg, Pa., Aug. 28—With twenty-six funerals under way, the dead being the victims of a panic that is due only to the cowardice of one man who is among the dead, this little city today presents a sorrowful sight.

The number were killed Saturday night when the snap of a broken film in a crowded moving picture theater was mistaken by a small boy, who yelled "fire!"

The boy's alarm so frightened Bolus Dubrowski, a foreigner, that he started a panic by making a break for the nearest entrance, knocking over women and children in his flight and causing the spirit of fear to seize the other occupants of the house who followed him.

The big burly fellow, in his haste fell down the steps at the entrance sweeping a score of people who were awaiting the commencement of a second performance admitted, from their feet.

The rush of humanity soon created a blockade at the entrance being piled high with struggling men, women and children, twenty-six of whom were trampled to death before the police and firemen could extricate them.

Dubrowski was at the bottom of the crushed mass.

More than a score were seriously injured and are today confined in the hospitals while thirty others were less seriously injured. A reward has been offered by the authorities for the arrest of the boy who started the panic by giving the false fire alarm.
