Full Text
By the most recent and authentic accounts from New York we learn, that even regiments are ordered to embark, of which the 22d and 57th, now lying on Staten Island are of the number, and that their remaining force will not exceed 9 regiments.
A great number of refugee families are preparing to leave New York; and the best informed gentlemen on the lines assure us, that great preparations are making which they suppose for a general evacuation. David Matthews, the Mayor, and several other active loyalists, have taken vessels for the transportation of themselves and families.
Desertion, at no time since the revolution, was ever more prevalent among the British, than at present.
