'Home of the Brave' Makes Hit in Chicago
CHICAGO-(ANP)-The film, "Home of the Brave," opened at the Woods theatre here last Wednesday night and ran to capacity its opening night, the original showing lasting until 5 a.m.
Newspaper reviews here were enthusiastic. Mae Tinee writing in The Chicago Tribune, said:
"Adults who like adult entertainment have been patronizing intelligent foreign films. Here is similar fare, made by an independent American producer, about a problem that is peculiarly our own.
"A terse, hard hitting, courageous film, it bluntly examines and sketches the basic stupidity of prejudice, the cruel, hidden damage it wreaks on helpless humans, the bitterness it engenders, and the innate inferiority of those who cling to it. The story is simply but deftly handled and in the reconstruction of the events that reduced a normal, decent human being to a helpless state of immobility and despair, there is mounting tension and an almost unbearable pity for the stupidity and the endless hurts brought about by man's inhumanity to man."
Jimmy Fidler, syndicated columnist classed the picture as a "four-bells" effort. The New York Daily News gave it "four stars."
