State Department Asks Castro Reverse Action Of Seizing Oil Refineries

WASHINGTON, (AP) The United States Tuesday protested as unfair, arbitrary and unlawful the Cuban seizure of two U.S. owned oil refineries. It asked Premier Fidel Castro to reverse the action.

The stiffly-worded protest was delivered in Havana by U.S. Ambassador Philip Bonsal.

But U. S. officials felt small hope that Castro would backtrack and return the refineries to the American owners.

The Castro regime seized the Texaco and Esso Standard Oil refineries last week when the two companies. plus the British-Dutch owned Shell Oil Co., refused to refine crude oil which the Cuban government had brought in from Russia.
