The ship John Wells, has arrived at New York, from Liverpool, whence she sailed on the 10th ult. and brings London dates of the 8th.

The French entered Saragossa on the 26th of April, by the consent of the magistrates of the place. Burgos was in their possession on the 22d of April, and Marshall Oudinot is stated to have pushed his advanced guard on the roads of Aranda and Palencia, with the intention of proceeding to Madrid. The occupation of the citadel of Jaca, and a few other places of small note, by the invading army, are likewise mentioned.

In consequence of the urgent demand of the Duke d'Angouleme, 30,000 additional troops had been ordered from the northern parts of France to the Pyrenees.

A brilliant affair took place near Valencia, between 600 Spanish cavalry, under Col. Bazan (aid to Mina) and 3000 royalists, in which the latter were defeated with the loss of 600 killed and 250 prisoners, besides 1500 stands of arms, 2 pieces of artillery, &c. The former were hemmed in by the latter and desperately resolved to cut their way through them in which they succeeded.

The gallant Bazan arrived in Valencia on the same night of his victory, about 8 o'clock, where he was received in triumph, and the city brilliantly illuminated.

The constitutional corps under the Count Abisbal and Gen. Morrillo, amounting to 40,000 men, were about to unite, and to offer battle to Marshall Oudinot, while Ballasteros was to keep in check the corps of Gen. Molitor.

The London Courier states, that a Russian army is assembling in the Dutchy of Warsaw, whether to be used for the purpose of overawing France in the absence of her own soldiers, or as a body of troops to join the French in Spain, we cannot pretend to say.

Marshall Moncey had summoned the fortress of St. Fernando de Figueras to surrender, but was informed by the Governor, St. Miguel, that its garrison would bury itself under the walls, sooner than surrender it.

A letter from the French army near Catalonia, says "This country is full of defile, without communication; the mountains are still covered with snow, and we have great difficulty as to provisions."

The head quarters of the army of the Western Pyrenees were still at Vittoria.

The Duke d'Angouleme was expected to arrive at Madrid, on the 20th May.

French Funds May 5.--Five per cents opened at 87f. 40c.; highest 87f. 75c.; closed at 87f. 40c. Bank Stock 1540f.

The French government vessels are fitting for sea with all possible expedition.

The Liverpool market for cotton was about the same as advised by the James Cropper, and no alteration in prices of other American produce.

A letter from Dover states, that the French Government have prohibited the introduction of the English newspapers into France, under the penalty of 50l. for each paper!!

Sir Robert Wilson, and one of Lord Erskine's grandsons had left London, for Lisbon. The former was about to join the Spanish army. Prior to his departure he addressed a letter to his constituents in which he observes, "I attach myself to the fortunes of Spain in the hour of her pressure and peril, prepared to share her toils; and I trust I may prove as emulous as any of her defenders to participate in her dangers."

Capt. Smith, of the ship Milton, ar. at Boston, from Manilla, reports, that on the 29th December, some papers were intercepted at Manilla, which led to the discovery of a horrid conspiracy to murder all the European Government officers-15 of the principal inhabitants were taken from their beds, in the night, and sent on board the Spanish ship Victoria, under a strong guard; and their property seized. This conspiracy caused a great alarm; and many of the merchants, and others, sent their property on board the shipping, for security. The plot was to be carried into execution on the night of Dec. 31; but was happily prevented by the accidental miscarriage of some of the conspirator's correspondence. They had bound themselves by a solemn oath. All was quiet February 21.
