EXPLOSION OF A "CAMPHENE" LAMP.
One of the students of Yale College was seriously burned in the hand and arm, and otherwise injured on Friday night, by the explosion of the vapors of the "camphene" with which he was replenishing his lamp. He was in the act of pouring out a fresh supply, holding the can in one hand and the unscrewed top of the lighted lamp in the other. Hardly had he elevated the can to the lamp and inclined it to a horizontal position, (the vessel not being more than half full,) when suddenly an explosion occurred, accompanied by a voluminous flame, which apparently filled the room, scorching the face and hair of the operator, and by the force of the explosion a portion of the oil was projected from the can over his hand and across the room, where it set fire to a broom on the table; also flowing over the table and floor, the room was instantly enveloped in flames. Fortunately no further injury resulted than the scorching of the gentleman's person and a few articles in the room, as timely assistance prevented the flames from spreading.
