BLACK AND white is a frequent color theme in smartly dressed circles in Paris. White coats are worn over black dresses, black jackets with white designs are worn over black, usual accessories being white or black, or both—gloves white, shoes and hat black. White coats worn over black frocks sometimes are three-quarters length, or again they are full length. At any rate, this effective combination of neutral shades is decidedly in favor at the present writing. This fact in no way contradicts what has been said about colors being vivid and very much in evidence. They are. It always is the few who wear black and white; the many yield to their longing for something colorful in clothes as in life.
Deservedly Popular
Dresses such as the one sketched, left, are deservedly popular. This is a frock you could appropriately wear at a garden party or any other dressy occasion out of doors or in. It's a print, softly pleated around the cuffs of the short sleeves and on the pockets, and it is tied in a large and flattering bow at the neck. A slip comes with it, and the dress comes in May wine with white print or violine blue with white. The price is $12.95.
Laces for daytime wear never were so featured as this year. No matter where you are going on your summer travels, you will enjoy the tailored dark cotton lace two-piece sketched, right. It is young and smart. The blouse is edged with matching grosgrain, and it comes in navy, blue, black, Dubonnet or brown. The dress costs $6.50, but a matching slip is an extra $2.50.
Dotted swisses in dark colors are also exceedingly practical and chic. Some of the new models are styled like suits, with deep revers and cuffs of white, preferably pique, the jackets fastening with a couple of square white pearl buttons. They are cool and very inexpensive, one delightful one being priced at $3.95.
Sleeves, according to some of the latest things in Paris showings, are going absolutely wild—they are that big. Not only on dresses, either, but on coats and evening wraps. A day coat has immense puffed sleeves with stitched cuffs matched by a huge collar with wide lapels. Then there is a satin evening wrap that is quilted all over in wavy lines and has enormous butterfly sleeves. And there is a velvet evening coat with balloon-like sleeves of mink.
These whimsies of high fashion are mentioned to assure you that any extravagant sleeves you may have acquired are all to the good.
