Full Text

Our Enemies Pray.—With what intense satisfaction are the Whigs throughout the country gloating over the prospect of a disruption of the Democratic party! Their exponents among the press are so happy in the anticipation as to allow the wildest expressions of joy to escape them again and again. One of the last and most jubilant of these we find in a Georgia journal, coupled with the following bitter prayer: Let it (the Democratic party) “fall; and our prayer to God is that it may fall, like Lucifer, never to rise again!”

And shall Democrats pander to these fierce desires by bickerings among themselves, which, if encouraged, may raise a storm to their own destruction? Should they not rather smother their internal feuds and still rally, a united band, around one banner, against the common enemy? Thus alone can their principles retain the ascendant.—Edgefield Advertiser
