PEACE QUIET REIGNS IN W. VIRGINIA COAL REGIONS
No Show of Resistance to Federal Troops on Guard All State Forces Relieved of Military Duty-Many of Men Return to Work in Mines- Operators' Association Replies to Charges Made By Gompers
Logan, W. Va., Sept. 5--Col. W. E. Eubanks, in command of units of the national guard called out to resist the attempted encroachment of armed men upon territory west of Spruce Fork Ridge today left for his home in Welch.
Before he left Logan every unit which served under him had been disbanded. Federal troops which yesterday took up positions in the area recently swept by outbreaks of firing between armed men today patrolled the entire region. reports from (Continued on Page 4-Col. 7)

which, without exception, indicated that all was quiet for the first time in many days.

Colonel Shuttleworth in command, declared that not a single shot had been fired on either side during the day. nor was there a sign of the presence of any disturbances.

Just before his departure Colonel Eubanks issued a statement expressing appreciation for the "loyalty, good conduct,and fighting qualities of the men who had served under him.

Logan was deserted today. Not a single volunteer was seen on the streets and it was said that so many men had returned to work at coal loading stations that some of these were able to operate up to 80 per cent. of maximum efficiency.
