Full Text

They write from Bologna, that Messrs. Verati and Mameteucci, Members of our Academy, have lately made, in Company with Messrs. Marino, Bonelli, and Paganuzzi, the Electrical Experiment relating to Thunder. Whilst one of them held the Iron Rod in his right Hand, and another the Chain with both Hands, a third accidentally laying his Hand on a silken String fastened to the Chain, a Scintillation ensued, which was attended with a Noise like that of Thunder ; at the very Instant the Scintillation appeared, the three Gentlemen felt a Concussion, but different in each of them; in the first it went from the right Arm to the Extremity of the Foot : in the second, from both Hands to the Breast, and in the third, from the right to the left Arm, and along down to the Sole of the Foot. The View of these Naturalists in their Experiment, is both to avert the Effects of Thunder from that City, and to abate the Wrath of it, which is there sometimes very tremendous.
