Mr. Editor—The choice of the Chief Magistrate of the nation justly excites in every bosom the deepest interest. The test, which has been applied to all the preceding Presidents, viz., the test of the revolution can be used no longer. Those great men, who led the American Israel from their bondage, are no more. New men must be sought. It is not unlikely that the choice of the President may devolve upon Congress. We of course feel anxious to know the sentiments of our Congressional candidates. We do not want them to pledge themselves, as to what they will do in that case. But we have a right to demand what their sentiments now are. The Hon. Ichabod Bartlett has heretofore received my vote. But what his mind is in relation to the next President: whether it is for Adams or Crawford we know not.

It would be very satisfactory to the public, if he would declare, through some newspaper, frankly, his sentiments upon that subject.

The reason of our selecting Mr. B. on this occasion, is plainly this, that we have heard (perhaps erroneously) that Mr. Crawford was his man. I need hardly say, how unpleasant and hopeless would be the condition of New-Hampshire, if her Representatives should be placed in a situation to assist in giving a Chief Magistrate to this Nation, and one or more of them should give a vote, (perhaps the casting vote) for the very man, of all others, that this State wishes should never be honored by the national chair.
