Marion, Sept. 2.-The need of the nation's public school teachers for better conditions and compensation was laid before Senator Warren G. Harding today by a committee representing over 700,000 school teachers.
Organizations represented in the committee which called at the Harding home were the National Educational Association, the American Federation of Teachers and the Illinois State Teachers Association.
Members of the committee called the candidate's attention to the serious plight in which the teaching profession finds itself and urged upon him the consideration of radical measures.
Today was a big day locally in Marion. The Chicago Cubs came here to plan an exhibition game solely for Senator Harding's benefit because the Senator found he couldn't spare the time from his front porch campaign to see a game elsewhere. The Senator and Mrs. Harding, both ardent fans, and the whole Harding headquarters staff will attend the game and make it a gala afternoon.
Members of the club called on the republican candidate during the forenoon. The owners of the Cubs, William Wrigley and A. D. Lasker, are identified with the Harding campaign.
