A Washington dispatch, dated Feb. 17, says: Senator Robert M. La Follette and other Republican Progressive leaders are about ready to break away from an old Republican moorings as a result of a third union pact forcing that the 1912 convention would be dominated by Taft G.O.P. conservatives, the organization, they believe general other kinds, that only a far-reaching concessions to the insurgents will be drafted either in the caucus or in legislative business. Senators Bristow of Kansas, Clapp of Minnesota and Beveridge of Indiana are said to be willing to divide with La Follette in the formation of a new party. In the house twenty or more insurgents under the leadership of Representative Victor Murdock of Kansas will bolt the organization and ally themselves with the new party. The president's efforts to conciliate the insurgents have not met with eager response. The insurgents frankly believe that he is "playing politics," needing their support in 1912. The republicans of the Middle West are as strongly opposed to him as ever, the insurgents say, and will not support him if renominated.
