Event Details
Senator Robert M. La Follette and other Republican Progressive leaders are about ready to break away from the old Republican organization due to Taft G.O.P. conservatives dominating the 1912 convention, believing only far-reaching concessions to insurgents will be made. Senators Bristow, Clapp, and Beveridge are willing to join La Follette in forming a new party. In the House, twenty or more insurgents led by Victor Murdock will bolt and ally with the new party. The president's conciliation efforts have not succeeded, with insurgents accusing him of playing politics for 1912 support. Middle West Republicans remain opposed.
