Full Text

Attempt at Highway Robbery.

The Urbana Citizen says: "On Monday last Mr. Sylvester Spain, of Wayne Township, came to Urbana and drew about $200 from the bank for the Treasurer of the Township, and had a $500 bill changed for his own convenience. Some one was evidently watching his proceeding, as when he came near his home he overtook a man on horseback who was leading another horse. The man being accosted by Mr. Spain, seized and cut his bridle reins and called 'delivery.' Mr. Spain had a revolver which he drew and the robber retreated to the roadside, where he received the contents of one barrel of the pistol. We learn that the next night a horse was stolen from the stable of Mr. J. A. Linville, in the same neighborhood, and we presume the fellow who attempted the robbery is the horse thief."
