HOMESITES AVAILABLE FOR
PATENT IN FORESTS

Four more homesites on the Alaska National Forests have been made available for patent through the signing, by Assistant Secretary of the Interior Orme Lewis, of Public Land Order No. 928 on November 23, 1953, according to Regional Forester A. W. Greeley. This Public Land Order provides for the elimination of the tracts from the National Forests. Three of them are located near Kenai Lake on the Kenai Division of the Chugach National Forest and the other is located on the Southern Division of the Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska.

The homesites eliminated in the Kenai Division are Charles A. O'Leary, Lawing Group; Fred Clark Ferguson, Primrose Group, near head of Kenai Lake; and Harvey A. Ainsworth, Trail Lake Group.

The Regional Forester states that it is the policy of the Forest Service to eliminate homesite tracts from the National Forest as promptly as possible after the permittees have met the homesite requirements so that they may make application for patent to the District Land Office at Anchorage.

Residents are particularly fortunate in that the homesite law can be applied in the National Forests of Alaska. This is not possible in Continental United States. Hundreds of homesites have already been eliminated from the Alaska National Forests and the permittees have received patent and now own their tracts.
