EXPECTED VISIT
On Tuesday last, a part of the Committee of Arrangements for this town, viz. Hon. Benj. Pickman, Jun. Hon. Judge Storer, Nathaniel Silsbee, M. C. Joseph Peabody and Willard Peele. Esq'rs. waited on the President at Dedham, to give him a respectful invitation, in behalf of the inhabitants of Salem. They were received with great courtesy; and the President expressed a ready and polite assent to their desire. though he could not at that time assign the day of his visit. It is now understood that it will take place on Tuesday next. and that he will come to town by the way of Marblehead. To receive him with all the honors becoming the character of the town, and due to the First Magistrate of the Union, the Committee are zealously employed in making every suitable civil and military preparation and notice will be given of the system of arrangements in our paper of Thursday morning.
The new Town Hall, over the Market House, will be first opened for public use, on this interesting occasion, where the Chief of the Nation will receive the respectful salutations of the assembled citizens, to whom he is bound, by the laws of God & his country, to administer, without partiality, the blessings of civil government.
The Hall will be tastefully decorated by those who can throw a grace and charm over these blessings.
