THE PURSUIT OF MORGAN.
EXCITEMENT AT ZANESVILLE.
CINCINNATI, July 23.—Morgan has crossed the Muskingum river at Eagleport, eighteen miles below Zanesville, and this morning our scouts report his force at 1,000 strong, with three pieces of artillery.
Col. Loomis sent his regiment and a large number of militia after him. Col. Chandler, of Zanesville, and twenty-five citizen scouts were captured at Deavertown last night.
The latest from Eagleport says the 56th Ohio regiment, under Lieut. Col. McFarland, are fighting the rebels, and driving them up the river towards Zanesville. This is not entirely reliable.
Business is suspended in Zanesville, and the citizens are turning out en masse to resist Morgan's progress.
The Latest.
CINCINNATI, July 23.—Morgan this afternoon was in Guernsey county, near the Central Ohio railroad, and was supposed to be making his way eastward for the Ohio river.
