FORT LEWIS, (P) A former prisoner of war, in an emotional outburst on the witness stand, Friday advocated that North Korean and Chinese Communists be used as human guinea pigs in atom bomb tests.
Lt. Jefferson D. Erwin, called as a defense witness in the collaboration trial of Lt. Col. Paul V. Liles, told an Army court he would not consider it an atrocity.
Erwin, who was acquitted of collaboration charges here last August, said: "I think it would be a good thing. Kill them all."
Liles is charged with collaborating with his Communist captors in North Korea and refusing to take command of American POWs at a camp in which he was the senior American officer.
Two other witnesses called to the stand in defense of Liles testified the Communists instructed prisoners to disregard military rank and to take orders only from leaders appointed by the Communists.
