The Day after his Excellency our Governor left
the Eastern Settlements, the Enemy, to the Number
of 50 French and 355 Indians, appeared at Georges,
and made an Attack upon the Fort : But Matters
there being so well prepared to receive them, they
could not make the least Impression, nor even upon
the Block House : They burnt some Houses in the
Woods, which had been deserted by the Inhabitants,
took one Woman and turned their Fury against the
Cattle. Four of them soon after appeared escorting
the Woman Prisoner under a Flag of Truce, Whom
Capt. North has redeemed for Nine Pounds : It is
from her we hear the Particulars of the Enemy and
their Numbers ; also that Lieut. Saunders and the
Prisoners taken at Naskeag Point are alive and well.
And last Monday Night the Account of this Attempt
arrived here : His Excellency immediately sent down
Capt. Hallowell in the King George: He has enc
down also some French Prisoners to exchange for
those which the Enemy have of ours.
