A Organization for Resistance to the Government.
AN ARMED POSSE DRIVE AWAY U. S. MARSHALS.
They Threaten to Kill if they are Interfered with.
New York, November 26. A New Orleans despatch says mill owners who have been using logs of government, have organized to resist the action of Marshal and government officials, and have got the State authorities to aid them. Early Sunday morning at Pascagoula, the sheriff of Jackson county with an armed posse drove away the marshals and special agents in charge, and took forcible possession of the property seized by the United States marshal at the mill of Griffin & Co., and a fight between the State authorities and United States marshals was imminent. The authorities have despatched the United States revenue cutter Dix with sailors and marines to the assistance of the marshal in charge. The logs are a part of a lot in possession of the United States under a writ of replevin from the United States circuit court. Some log men are gathering in the woods. They say they have might, and shall have right to take what logs they please, and they will kill somebody before they should get through. The mills are near Pascagoula.
