We learn by the Boston Post that the Democrats of Massachusetts held a State Convention at Worcester on the 1st inst. Not less than TWENTY-FIVE HUNDRED sound and true democrats were on the ground representing every section of the commonwealth. The following gentlemen were the officers of the day—
For President—Geo. Bancroft, of Boston.
For Vice Presidents— A. T. Newhall, of Lynnfield; Horatio G. Newcomb, of Greenfield Wm. Ellis, of Dedham; Daniel Carson, of Dalton; Henry Williams, of Taunton, and Pliny Merrick, of Worcester.
For Secretaries—E. D. Beach, of Springfield: Geo. Willis, of Pittsfield; Lewis Josselyn, of Boston, and Asa Waters, of Millbury.
MARCUS MORTON was nominated candidate for Governor and H. H. CHILDS OF PITTSFIELD for Lt. Governor. The Post says never did we see our friends animated by more cheerful hopes, or manifest a firmer resolution to regain for their state and nation the ascendency of those glorious principles of republican liberty upon which the prosperity and happiness of the whole depend, and if the same patriotic feelings animate those democrats who remain at home, that appeared to actuate their delegates in the Convention, MARCUS MORTON and H. H. CHILDS will be the next Governor and Lt. Governor of the Old Bay State.
